I have a background in consulting engineering that adds an analytical twist to my editing arsenal.
I find editing nonfiction to be straightforward but love the art and creativity involved with editing fiction and children's books.
A bit about Jaimee outside of editing…
Born and raised in the Canadian prairies.
I have a love for the slow paced rural life and desire adventures in nature.
I discovered my love of transforming words while raising my 3 kiddos.
I find peace being near any body of water and crave time spent in the mountains. I refuel by going for walks and adventures with my family.
I have never met a waterfall that I didn’t love.
I have a deep love for animals. I enjoy golfing, volleyball and softball.
You can find me carrying a book everywhere with me trying to get a few pages in whenever I can.
As an extroverted introvert, it’s crucial for me to balance my needs for human interaction with time spent alone.
Ask me to tell you about my craziest backpacking story and the funniest cat I ever had.
We can meet on a zoom call to discuss your goals for your book. This provides proof-of-person and a chance to get to know each other. Then you send me your manuscript so I can give you an accurate quote. We sign a contract and I get working on your first pass!
I work in Microsoft Word and track changes and leave comments. You get your first pass, accept/reject each change, ask any questions, maybe have a zoom call, and send it back. Repeat until your book is polished up and ready to print! Final invoice sent and payment within 30 days.
I will spend time understanding your vision and focus. I will encourage you. I will push you to your highest writing excellence. I want your investment in my services to bring you peace of mind, relief and a renewed pride in your work. Your final result will still be your writing, but polished.
We'll first have a discovery call or email conversation about your goals for your project. For children's books, I like to look at the entire manuscript before quoting, this allows me to not overcharge if it doesn't need as much work. If it' something longer than a picture book, I'll ask you for a sample of the piece you have written. I will completely edit this and return to you. This sample gives you a chance to see what my editing style looks like and also allows me to estimate the work involved and provide you a quote.
If you decide we are a good fit, I'll send you a contract outlining what services I'll provide and the deadline of completion.
You will receive a file with tracked changes for you to accept/reject.
You have the final say. My suggestions are my opinion of what I think works best but you’re the expert on your writing, if something doesn’t suit your style we can discuss or you can simply reject the suggested change.
Scenario 1: A group you're in (family, friends, church, work) got together to compile favourite recipes. Everyone sent them in varying formats/styles. You copy, pasted and changed as much as you could but there are so many inconsistencies. It looks very disheveled, the formatting is off and you're stumped on what to do next to make it look professional. You're worried someone didn't use the right quantities or the instructions don't include all the ingredients.
Scenario 2: You are an avid baker, chef or nutritionist. You are constantly being asked for your recipes because everyone loves your baking/cooking. You've started to write them out over the years but you prefer the baking, cooking and eating over the writing part of your recipes.
Let me come in and do my job. I can ensure every recipe is outlined the same, ordering the ingredients, ensuring units are written the same with no glaring errors like 1 cup of salt instead of 1 cup of sugar. I can also take the tedious task of creating a categorized and alphabetical index to ensure your readers can easily locate your amazing recipes. This investment will level up your cookbook. You will receive a polished version of your hard work.

You get your ideas professionally summarized in your voice and style. The hassle of creating an engaging piece is off your plate. Relax knowing a properly written manuscript, caption, course content or any other written work is coming your way.
